Earth Day 2026 at Beacon Academy: Inspiring Young Environmental Changemakers

On 22 April, our Junior School came together to mark the opening of Earth Day 2026 with a student-led celebration focused on awareness, responsibility, and action. The event was thoughtfully led by our Year 2 students, who introduced the purpose of Earth Day and reminded us why caring for our planet matters. The celebration began with a lively welcome, followed by a read-aloud of One Plastic Bag, a story that encouraged students to think about how small, creative actions can lead to meaningful change. Through their reflections, students highlighted the importance of reducing plastic, working together, and making mindful choices in their daily lives.

Students also had the wonderful opportunity to learn from special guest organisations. Year 1 learned about wildlife conservation through Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOSF). Year 2 and Year 4 explored animal welfare with Jakarta Animal Aid Network (JAAN) Domestic. Year 3 and Year 5 engaged with Beach Clean Up Jakarta (Langit Biru Pertiwi), focusing on keeping Indonesia clean and green. These experiences helped students connect their learning to real-world action and see the impact of caring for their environment. We are grateful to our guest organisations for their time, generosity, and willingness to share their work with our Junior School students.

Earth Day in our school was not just a celebration, but a starting point for continued learning, reflection, and positive action at Beacon Academy.
