At Beacon Academy, the Global Awareness Club embodies the spirit of curiosity, collaboration, and critical thinking. Comprising seven dedicated students and two guiding teachers, the club is a platform to explore global issues and engage with diverse perspectives. The students regularly create short podcasts on pressing topics, such as microplastics, environmental concerns and many important issues facing the world. These podcasts are more than just a creative outlet; they hone essential skills like public speaking, idea generation, and collaborative learning. For example, their recent five-minute podcast on the effects of microplastics highlighted the impacts on human health and explored actionable solutions, demonstrating their ability to combine research with impactful communication.
The journey isn’t always without its challenges. Initially, the student team struggled with idea generation, time management, and effective collaboration. However, they overcame these obstacles through persistence and teamwork, developing critical organizational and planning skills that have prepared them to take on larger initiatives. This is the key to achieving outcomes, and students value these stages of learning.
The Global Awareness Club’s work at Beacon Academy is not limited to its regular activities. It also plays a pivotal role in organizing and contributing to the school’s Global Awareness Conference. By fostering discussions on global issues, brainstorming solutions, and managing time effectively, the club exemplifies how student-led initiatives can spark meaningful change and personal growth. Beacon Academy is proud to support these young changemakers as they continue to inspire and engage with the world.
