Beyond Academics: Beacon Academy Jakarta’s Parents Wellbeing Seminar Focuses on Critical Thinking

Beacon Academy Jakarta successfully held the January edition of the Parents Wellbeing Seminar, reaffirming the school’s ongoing commitment to supporting the wellbeing of its school community. The seminar, themed “Raising Critical Thinkers – How Parents Can Nurture Thoughtful and Independent Minds,” addressed a timely and highly relevant topic for parents navigating the challenges of a global and fast-changing world.

The session highlighted the importance of critical thinking in today’s rapidly evolving educational landscape, where academic achievement alone is no longer sufficient to prepare children for future success. Parents were encouraged to reflect on how critical thinking skills—such as analysing information, solving problems, making informed decisions, and developing independence—play a crucial role in their children’s learning and personal growth. As a leading international school in Jakarta, Beacon Academy emphasised the shared responsibility between school and home in nurturing these essential competencies.

Designed to support parents across all age levels, from early childhood through adolescence, the seminar explored how critical thinking develops over time. Parents gained valuable insights into how everyday interactions at home can shape thoughtful, reflective, and confident learners. Practical examples were shared on encouraging questioning, reasoning, and independent thinking, particularly in an era where children are constantly exposed to digital information and diverse perspectives.

The seminar also served as a platform to strengthen collaboration between parents and the school, reinforcing Beacon Academy’s holistic approach to education. Parents left the session with practical, easy-to-apply strategies to support their children’s learning journeys through meaningful conversations, guided decision-making, and the creation of supportive home learning environments.

Held on Tuesday, 20 January 2026, at the MSS Library, Beacon Academy Jakarta, the event featured a keynote presentation by Dr. Soebowo Musa, a Critical Thinking Lecturer and Independent Commissioner at BNP Paribas. The session concluded with an engaging interactive discussion and Q&A, allowing parents to share experiences and seek advice directly from the speaker.

Through initiatives such as the Parents Wellbeing Seminar, Beacon Academy Jakarta continues to strengthen its partnership with families, ensuring students are supported not only academically, but also in developing the critical thinking skills needed to become well-rounded, future-ready learners.
